Handgun Missed on Multiple Patdowns

An officer [with a local police department] conducted a traffic stop for a minor traffic violation. There were two occupants in the vehicle. Upon contact, the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and was immediately backed up by a state trooper.

Shoplifter Turns Violent

An off-duty officer was working a security detail with loss prevention at a department store. The off-duty officer radioed for assistance in reference to a subject that was using a small pocket knife to open items and conceal them while inside of the store.

Subject Reportedly Armed with BB Gun Shoots Officer with 9mm Handgun

Two deputies were dispatched to a gas station for an employee who was reportedly behaving erratically and refusing to leave the property. The station manager also stated that the employee was armed with what appeared to be a BB gun.

Vest Saves Officer during Traffic Stop

An officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for an observed traffic violation. The officer followed procedure and notified dispatch of his location and provided a description of the vehicle. The officer was unable to provide the dispatcher with a license plate number, but he reported that the plate was likely issued by the state of Ohio.

Officers Find AK-47 Concealed in Suspect’s Shorts

Officers responded to a Suspicious Person call. Two subjects were observed near a vehicle at an apartment complex with all four car doors open. After contacting the subjects, it was discovered that their license plate was covered by tape, and both of the subjects had Halloween masks.

Domestic Incident in Bar Parking Lot Results in Three Officers Injured

I responded to a report of a female being actively battered in the parking lot of a bar during a late night call. The initial radio dispatch stated that a male subject was actively punching a collapsed female in the face while holding her up by her hair, and was updated to state the suspect was now dragging her through the parking lot by her hair.

Armed Suspect Flanks Responding Officers at Convenience Store

Officers responded to a report of a robbery shooting in a residential area next to a convenience store. A citizen caller advised that two suspects had fled into the store several minutes before officers arrived. The citizen caller reported that he was also inside the store and provided his own physical description to the call taker.

Holster Retention Issue during Foot Pursuit of Armed Subject

A specialty unit officer was performing surveillance on violent gang members. One known subject left in a vehicle, and after officers observed traffic offenses (and confirmed the subject had a suspended license), an attempt to stop the subject was made. The vehicle/suspect refused to stop and fled for 6-8 blocks before the driver and passenger bailed out on foot.

Simple Shoplift – Loaded .45

I responded to a misdemeanor shoplifting while working an extra job at a department store. The store camera operator alerted me to a pair of men, one of whom was stuffing clothes down the front of his pants. I happened to be talking to an on-duty officer at the time who came with me to make the stop.

Subject Attempts to Draw Concealed Handgun during Frisk

I was dispatched to a fight call in the back parking lot of an apartment complex. My zone partner arrived on scene first, made contact with the subjects, and called out the scene was Code 4 (Safe) prior to my arrival.
