Fighting Over a Gun with a Sovereign Citizen

As a young officer out on patrol looking for DUIs, I observed a gold sedan driving slowly up the street to one of our local bars. The speed on the roadway is 25 mph; however, this driver was traveling less than five mph, which was odd.

Not a Real Search and Rescue

I was working countywide the night of the incident, meaning I was working alone and covering the entire county. I received a call for service for a subject lost in the woods, who was unable to move due to being too weak. The male subject had called using his cell phone and gave a general location.

Check and Double Check

A call for service was received about a domestic disturbance with allegations that the known suspect had pointed a gun at the caller during a verbal altercation. The caller then fled to a nearby gas station and contacted police.

Take Full Advantage of Time before Going Hands-On

My partner and I were dispatched for a domestic complaint where a husband had physically assaulted his wife. My partner and I had been working a two-person car for about two years. We arrived on scene and met the wife outside of their apartment. She said her husband was inside, had been drinking, and had physically assaulted her.

Domestic Suspect Could Have Ambushed Officers at Any Time

We were sent to a domestic in a small studio apartment. My partner was talking to the female and I stood cover. The female said the male subject had left the scene.

Pre-Planned Ambush Foiled at Fair

I was working at the county fair when I was flagged down by a concerned citizen. She stated there was an intoxicated male sitting on the back of my patrol unit and gave me a description. I went into the parking area and saw a white male sitting on my patrol unit.

Shootout with Kidnapping Suspect

At 0445, one of my patrol officers was on patrol in a supermarket parking lot and noticed a vehicle backed up near one of the doors with a subject inside the vehicle screaming and acting very agitated. The officer called it into dispatch, and I responded to the call.

Never Assume the Scene is Secure, Even if You’re the 5th Officer on Scene

Two of my partners were riding two-man one night and stopped a car for a brake light violation. When they walked up to the car, they smelled the odor of marijuana and had the occupants exit the vehicle while they performed a search. The officers keyed up on the radio saying they had 5 detained.

Staggering Drunk Conceals Firearm

I stopped and arrested a staggering drunk in a parking lot. As I searched him, he leaned up against and partly over the hood of my car. He also kept squirming, so I had a hard time with the search, especially around the crotch. I thought, “Whatever.”

Murder Suspect Nearly Stopped

I work at an agency that borders another state. We have a major interstate highway that runs north/south through the middle of our jurisdiction. One night last June, I was driving down the interstate looking for traffic violations, and I observed a white mid-2000’s Chevy vehicle in front of me going 5 MPH below the posted speed limit.
