When the officer asked the driver for his driver’s license, insurance, or any form of identification, the driver replied that he did not have anything with him.

Trooper Fired Upon Following K-9 Track

In the early morning hours, state troopers responded to assist local police in locating a vehicle wanted in connection with a hit-and-run crash minutes earlier on [a major interstate]. Troopers found the suspect vehicle abandoned at a car dealership and deployed a K-9 to track the suspect.

Officers Surprised by Suspect during Shots Fired Call

Officers received a call for shots fired in the area. They responded to a house for a disturbance involving the individual who fired the shots. Officers were checking the yard while another officer went to the front door to meet the complainant. One officer observed the suspect in the corner of the back yard.

As a proactive patrol officer on the midnight shift, I routinely used pretextual stops to make DWI and drug arrests. In my assigned area, I often parked on a side street with my lights off to monitor a four-way stop intersection on a state road. Traffic was infrequent on this road during the overnight hours as it passed through several miles of residential neighborhoods.
