Inmate Smuggles Contraband from Law Library

At approximately 1430, I went to [Housing Module A] to look at the telephone access for segregation inmates. While standing in front of the law library room, [Inmate 1] stated the cable for the printer was missing. I entered the Law Library room and inspected the printer and computer to verify the cable was gone.

Inmate Surprises and Assaults Corrections Deputies

On 3/15/17 at around 0100, [an inmate] was out on his recreational time in [housing unit A]. When [Deputy 1] was just completing a module check, [the inmate] ambushed him by suddenly punching him in the face, knocking [Deputy 1] down. The inmate continued the vicious assault, then disengaged.

Nearly Hit by Car while Attempting to Assist Deputy

I was close by to an assault call, in which two males were fighting and one appeared unconscious. Second broadcast reported 1 male down on the pavement and the other walking away. I drove to the injured male to render aid. We are a large agency, and fights and disturbances are very common calls.

Officer Attempts to Deploy Spike Strips on Three-Lane Interstate

A pursuit of a stolen car was traveling N/B on the local interstate. An officer ahead of the pursuit stopped on the inside shoulder, preparing to deploy spike strips as the pursuit neared their location. The suspect, from a distance, observed the officer on the inside shoulder and intentionally steered/veered to the right in an attempt to avoid the spikes.

Armed Subject Hides from Officers during Foot Pursuit

Two armed suspects robbed an individual and stole the victim’s vehicle. A patrol officer located the vehicle being driven on a city roadway and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

Handcuff Key Found in Back of Patrol Vehicle after Inmate Transport

I was taking everything out of my pockets after a day of work. I realized that the pen-shaped handcuff key I carry in my pocket was missing. I was not sure where or when I had lost it. I bought a new one and did not think much of it.

Swatting Incident at University

A male subject called 911 and said that his “roommate” had a gun and was headed to a named school campus and planned on shooting people. The caller added that his “roommate” was dressed in black. University, city, state and federal law enforcement agencies responded.

Over Confident during Warrant Arrest of Known Subject

I was on duty in my own rural (very rural) neighborhood when I saw a known subject, whom I have dealt with numerous times, who had a warrant and suspended driver’s license. I watched him drive home and pulled him over. He saw me and went into his house. I filled out the citation and knocked on the door. We knew each other by first name—that is how often I have dealt with him.

Failure to Search Subject during Vehicle Search

After arresting a warrant subject from the driver’s seat, deputy 1 took the arrestee to a patrol car for search incident to arrest. Deputy 2 & 3 remained with the violator’s vehicle in order to remove passengers and search the vehicle.
